If you’re anything like me, when taking your child abroad, one of the immediate concerns were— what about a car seat?! How will we get around?? So here’s a few things I’ve discovered in my research.
Car seats are a huge talking point for professionals and parents alike, with everyone having done their own research surrounding their children’s safety at home. However, after hopping off a flight, what happens then?
When travelling on an infant ticket, you are able to bring several baby items for free to keep in the hold. It’s always best to check with the airline how many things you are able to bring with your ticket, but when travelling with my daughter as a baby, I would always bring the travel system, which had the clip on and off car seat and pram combined. It saved a lot hassle when travelling around, and the majority of the time I was able to carry her in a sling and just push the car seat around.
So what about older children? Typically booster seats are an easy thing to pack when it comes to older children, and you’re very likely to find a lot of options regarding travel booster seats online. The market surrounding travel booster seats is absolutely incredible with fold away seats, backpack seats, you name it, you can find it. As always it’s best to throughly research the safety information regarding the seat beforehand, but you’ll find they are so easy to pack away and store in a simple bag or suitcase.
The part where it gets difficult is between the ages of 1-4. They’re too big for the travel system, and they’re not big enough for a booster seat. So what options are they? The only product I have ever really found that is legally certified is a product by Trunki, however it is still a “booster seat” without a proper harness. The answer really isn’t so straightforward, with countries having their own legal requirements for cars and taxi’s, if they require children to travel in a 5 point harness, a booster seat really won’t cut it.
My method personally has always been the public transport method. If you find a coach, bus or train to get around, it may be worth it for your peace of mind. However some rental or taxi companies may be able to supply you with a seat, so it’s definitely worth shopping around.

Happy travelling ♥️
