Road Trippin’ in North Wales — the highlights

Last week we finally made it back to beautiful Wales, it’s been 2 whole years since our last visit which was 2 years too long.

Personally I think a road trip is the best way to explore wales, so I’ve written this blog to give you a few ideas of places we stopped during May . Obviously there’re hundreds of places I could recommend, but here is how we spend our 5 short days.

Day 1 —

We arrived in Prestatyn! Prestatyn is incredibly easy to get to and such a lovely coastal town. It’s an lovely place to use as a base with supermarkets, coffee shops and things to do for the whole family

Essential part of any seaside trip

Day 2 —

If you use Prestatyn as a base, don’t forget to visit the beach. Unfortunately we arrived in Prestatyn just before dark when things were starting to shut, so we had to properly visit Prestatyn on our first full day— including adding in a beach trip. We also walked down the coast line (there’s also plenty of little towns to stop off in, like Talacre, to see the lighthouse.

After we’d finished we drove further down the coast to Abagele, the place where I’m a celeb was filmed. It’s such a lovely town to explore, and the locals are so very friendly. You’ll find a zoo, a castle, churches, beaches, and the bus system is very easy to follow if you fancy leaving the car at your base.

Day 3 —

Day three we drove down to Llandudno, and made the whole day of it. First we explored the town and pier, and of course ended up searching for rocks on the beach. During the afternoon we took the tram up to the Great Orme and saw the underground museum.

If you’re brave enough, there’s also the cable cars, and you’re able to drive around and up to the Great Orme. It’s a little frightening, but also the views are incredible!

Day 4–

On day four we drove down to Conwy and did a small whistle stop tour. We went sight seeing around the town and visited the smaller house in Britain. There’s also the castle, shops, and a lovely Quay.

Day 5–

We managed to take the Long way home and visit Betws-y-Coed. It’s was a gorgeous way to end our road trip taking in the countryside before heading back home.

Are you planning a welsh road trip soon? Let me know in the comments!
